Porous coating

Ensures bone growth through it

Sintered microspheres

Promoting osseointegration

The porous coating process has been developed and improved by Biovac for over thirty years to suit its purpose: osseointegration.

Porous Coating or sintered microspheres: the best option for osseointegration. The ap-plication of the coating on the implant is done manually, so we are able to cover any geometry of the implant. The different calibres of the microspheres offer a real porosity that facilitates osseointegration in any type of implants and surfaces.

The micro-spheres or irregular particles of sintered coating create a porous mesh so that the bone can grow through its interstices, providing a long-term natural biological fixation, between implant and bone.

The results of this type of porous coating have been widely demonstrated during years of application, thus confirming the advantages of its use in obtaining a better fixation of the bone to all types of surgical implants.

With the porous coating of spheres and/or irregular particles we can obtain the best properties of thickness, accessible porosity and pore size. We can apply a wide range of thicknesses from 0.15 to 1.8 mm with sintered spheres; and with irregular powder we can achieve the highest porosity values (up to 60%) with an average pore size between 160 – 260 µm.

Osseointegration of bone with the implant coating
1
Interconnected pore: A three-dimensional porous matrix is formed from the outer surface to the implant.
2
Porosity: Microspheres: 35-40% Irregular particles: 50-60%
3
Titanium coating on titanium parts, and Co-Cr-Mo coating on Co-Cr-Mo parts, avoiding the risks of potentio-dynamic corrosion.
4
Pore size: 80-250 μm

Ideal coupling between bone and implant

“Porough” is the ideal coating for fast, high-quality osseointegration.

Porough is a coating that differs from the usual Ti and Co-Cr coatings. Its unique properties of extremely high porosity and roughness further facilitate bone growth and osseointegration.

To have adequate osseointegration, a very porous structure with well-defined pores is required.
